The best modern furniture brands: the 2026 ranking
Updated October 2026
A furniture brand becomes famous when one of its pieces is recognisable without reading the label: a table with crossed legs, a low modular sofa, an armchair of curved glass. That is why our ranking does not reward turnover or advertising, but the ability to leave a mark on people’s homes.
The best modern furniture brands combine a recognisable design identity, valuable designers and build quality that lasts. We have chosen fifteen Italian companies we work with every day at Arredare Moderno and, for each one, the product that best tells its story.
At a glance
- The 2026 ranking includes fifteen Italian modern furniture brands, from living area to bedroom.
- Each brand is presented through a signature piece and the designer who created it.
- Criteria: design identity, collaborations with designers, quality of materials, real presence in homes.
- Bonaldo, Cattelan Italia, Moroso and Gervasoni lead for recognisability; MDF Italia and Fiam for research on materials.
- To recognise branded furniture, look at the technical sheet, certified finishes and manufacturer support.
How we chose the brands
We looked at four things. Identity: a coherent catalogue where you can tell who designed what and why. Designers, because companies that work with leading names tend to produce pieces that last. Build quality, readable in technical sheets more than in slogans. And real presence in homes: how often a model is chosen, combined and bought again.
The result is a ranking of Italian brands, all mid-to-high range, ordered by how recognisable their signature product is.
The 2026 ranking of modern furniture brands
1. Bonaldo
Based near Padua and active since 1936, Bonaldo built its fame on tables and upholstery with bold design. Its signature piece is the Big Table by Alain Gilles: laser-cut steel legs, tilted and of different shapes, cross beneath the top and give the table a movement no photo fully captures. In the bedroom the same character appears in the Fluff bed by Mauro Lipparini, with a feather-blend padded headboard.

2. Cattelan Italia
Cattelan Italia means glass, steel and ceramic worked with industrial precision. The Skorpio table by Andrea Lucatello sums up the brand’s language: an embossed painted steel base and a crystal top with reverse bevelled edges, equally at home in a contemporary kitchen or a formal dining room.
3. Moroso
Moroso, from Friuli, has made collaboration with international designers its hallmark. The Lowland sofa by Patricia Urquiola is the best-known example: a low seat, with back, seat and arms conceived as modules to combine. Lowland also exists as a bed.

4. Gervasoni
Founded in Udine in 1882, Gervasoni changed face under the art direction of Paola Navone. The Ghost collection is its manifesto: upholstery with oversized removable covers, outlined by stitching, like soft linen garments over the frame. Ghost is a sofa, armchair and bed.
5. MDF Italia
MDF Italia works by subtraction. The Tense table reduces the object to the idea of a table, four legs and a top, made in technical materials such as solid surface and Fenix. In the bedroom the same rigour becomes the Aluminium Bed.

6. Fiam
Fiam brought curved glass into the living room. The Ghost armchair, designed by Cini Boeri, is made from a single 12 mm sheet of curved glass: an object that seems impossible until you sit on it.
7. Ditre Italia
Ditre Italia specialises in clean-lined sofas with many configurations. The Kris sofa by Stefano Spessotto and Lorella Agnoletto sums up its approach: balanced proportions and versions such as Low and Mix to suit different living rooms.
8. Désirée
Désirée works on soft comfort, with designer Roberto Gobbo behind many of its most popular models. The Agon sofa has a back that can rise by 11 cm for firmer support; the Ozium bed brings the same idea to the bedroom.
9. Arketipo
Arketipo brings fashion into the living room. The Auto-Reverse sofa by Giuseppe Viganò and the Windsor Dream collection by Manzoni and Tapinassi, with diamond quilting, show a brand that loves tailored details.
10. Tonin Casa
Tonin Casa covers living and sleeping areas with a contemporary language and many finishes. The Brooklyn table can be customised from youthful to elegant; the Bull bed by Andrea Lucatello merges headboard and frame into one soft volume.
11. Bontempi Casa
Bontempi Casa is the brand of customisation. The Glamour table is chosen almost like a tailored suit: a lacquered steel base in several colours and a wide choice of tops.
12. Midj
Midj makes tables and seating in metal with essential lines. The Alexander table, with a metal base and tops in various finishes, works quietly in a modern dining area.
13. Slide
Slide made rotomoulded polyethylene pop, indoors and out. Chubby, armchair and pouf designed by Marcel Wanders, shows that a technical material can take soft, ironic shapes.
14. Felis
Felis specialises in upholstered sofas and beds, with a wide range of fabrics and sizes. The padded Bowie bed with removable cover and matching or contrasting piping is one of its most popular models.
15. Twils
Twils designs beds and sofas with sinuous lines. The Giselle bed, with its enveloping padded headboard, shows how the brand combines comfort and a decorative touch without excess.
How to recognise branded furniture
The name in the catalogue is not enough. Branded furniture has a complete technical sheet with materials, finishes and dimensions declared by the manufacturer, and often names the designer. Finishes have precise codes, useful for ordering a matching piece years later. Then there is support: spare parts, replacement covers for removable upholstery, warranty handled by the company.
For individual pieces, see our guides to famous designer armchairs and the best designer table brands; for the top end, our guide to Italian luxury furniture. Many of these brands present their new collections every year at the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most famous modern furniture brand in Italy?
There is no official ranking. For the recognisability of their signature pieces, Bonaldo, Cattelan Italia, Moroso and Gervasoni are among the most cited Italian brands.
Which furniture brands last the longest?
Those that declare materials and workmanship in the technical sheet and guarantee spare parts and replacement covers. Durability depends more on build quality and support than on the name.
What is the difference between a design brand and a modern furniture brand?
A design brand works with recognised designers and credits each product. A modern furniture brand may have a contemporary catalogue without signatures: the companies in this ranking are both.
Where can I see these brands in person?
In authorised dealers’ showrooms and at trade fairs. Before going, bring your room measurements and photos of the space.
